Beautiful condition J. Henry & Son rifle showing very little use with the serial number 15 lightly visible on the barrel forward of the bayonet lug. These arms were manufactured in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania between 1861-1862. According to Norm Flayderman approximately 600 were made for the state of Pennsylvania. The brass butt plate, patch box, trigger guard, nose cap and barrel bands are in fine condition and retain a nice age patina. The rack number 20 is clearly visible on the butt-plate. All metal parts have a deep dark patina with strong markings on the barrel and the lock plate. The lock action is sharp and crisp and is mechanically perfect. The .58 caliber barrel still retains good rifling with very minor pitting. The wood is in fine condition with a few minor nicks and scrapes. About the only fault I can find is the ram rod which appears to be a replacement. All in all a very rare Civil War musket in very fine condition.
