Dark gun that has light cleaning. Nice wood with a crisp mechanical action with 20 inch barrel. All markings are clear and visible with matching serial number 1443, visible inside the primer door and on the bottom of the barrel. The breech leaver does not fit tightly and needs a little work to make it stay closed. The 1st model Maynard is considered by some collectors to be a secondary Confederate arm with the states of Georgia, Mississippi and Florida making purchases prior to the war. The state of Florida bought approximately 1100 carbines such as this one in .35 caliber
